What is a measurement  

Measurement: The assignment of a numerical value to material things to represent the relations among them with respect to a particular process.

Gauge :- Is any device used to obtain measurement. Include attribute gauges.

Measurement System :- Is the collection of instruments or gauges, standards, operations, methods, fixtures, software, personnel, environment and assumptions used to quantify a unit of measure or fix assessment to the feature characteristics  being measured; the complete process used to obtain measurement.
